Lucy M. Simpson
Cabochon
An ongoing project encapsulating an affinity for colour through an intuitive and experimental painting process. Lucy has always been drawn to natural forms, in particular rock formations and their strata. A visual collector of texture, she is pulled to their nuances of surface and colour, each layer adding to their rich mystique.
Through her instinctive brush work and use of colour, the ethereal landscapes she creates are an unwavering sentinel, a keeper of equilibrium in the face of chaos. As an artist she is in constant search of exploring how paint can convey the poetry of suggestion.
Her creative process is not dissimilar to the complex composition of the minerals that she observes, each painting made up of multiple layers, impulsively and yet thoughtfully created at the same time.
She is currently Professor of various courses in Textile Design at NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti ) in Milan and has recently designed collections of textiles for Jil Sander, Milan.
